The essentials in three lines

  • Almost no charge is truly hidden : it is written in the contract, in a section nobody reads.
  • The four lines that keep coming back: cleaning, fuel, late return, second driver.
  • At Carsalis these amounts are published on the rental conditions page, before you book.

The price of a rental is settled at the start. The bill is settled on the return. In between, there is a handful of lines that have been in the contract from the beginning and that nobody has read. Here they are, with what they actually cover.

Cleaning

A vehicle handed back covered in sand, dust or rubbish is charged for. It is a general practice, and a legitimate one: the car has to go out clean for the next customer. What changes from one agency to another is the amount and the tolerance threshold.

With us the rule is written down: the vehicle must be returned in a reasonably clean condition, failing which a cleaning charge of 100 MAD applies. A round trip to the beach is no problem; a car full of sand is.

Fuel

Two systems exist. The first, known as full-to-full, hands you the car with a recorded level and asks you to return it at the same level. The second sells you a full tank at the start and does not refund what you have not used.

The second system almost always costs more, because nobody hands a car back strictly empty. Our conditions use the first: the level on return must match the one recorded at delivery. That is why we note that level together, the two of us, when the keys are handed over.

Late return

The rental period is counted in 24-hour blocks. Any day started beyond two hours is charged as an extra day, and a delay of more than two hours without prior agreement means a full day is charged.

It is not a penalty, it is arithmetic: the car is often booked right behind you. A simple WhatsApp message the day before is enough to move the time when it is possible.

The other lines

Line What it covers
Second driver A supplement, and the driver must appear on the contract
Fines and offences At the renter's expense, for the whole rental period
Delivery outside Agadir €60 per journey to Marrakech, Essaouira or Taroudant; a collection and a return outside Agadir count as two journeys
Card payment on arrival 5% in bank charges
Off-road use Unpaved tracks are not allowed, except for vehicles expressly suited to them; any resulting damage is charged for

Within Agadir itself — airport, hotel, city centre — delivery and collection are free.

How to read a contract in three minutes

You do not need to read everything. Look for four words, in this order: deposit, fuel, cleaning, late return. If all four carry a figure in black and white, the contract is honest. If one of them refers to a scale you have not seen, ask for it before signing.

Frequently asked questions

Can a charge appear after I have left Morocco?

Yes, in two cases: a fine passed on by the authorities after the fact, and damage found on the return. That is exactly what the joint vehicle check at the start is there to prevent.

Is a full tank included in the rate?

No. Fuel is at your expense, in every case.

Are there booking or administration fees?

No. Booking is done by a simple request, with no advance payment and no online payment.

Is mileage limited?

No, unlimited mileage is included in every rate.
