The essentials in three lines

  • In town, a car is of little use: walking along the seafront, petits taxis and the bus are all you need. It becomes useful as soon as you leave Agadir.
  • From a hotel on the bay, two or three days are enough; for surfing, as a family or on a road trip, keep it for your whole stay; if you are wintering, hire long term or in blocks.
  • At Carsalis, our rates are per day, hire is counted in 24-hour blocks, and delivery is free in Agadir: airport, hotel or city centre.

You have booked a week or a month in Agadir and you are unsure: take a car straight from the airport, hire one for a few days, or do without? We are often asked this on WhatsApp, and our answer is not always “yes”. A car parked outside the hotel five days out of seven is money spent for nothing; going without one when you want to see the hinterland means missing out on the region.

What a car does not give you in town

If you are staying near the bay and your plans come down to the beach and the promenade, a car will spend most of its time in the car park. Petits taxis run around town and take three passengers at most, according to the regional tourism website. Since May 2026, a bus rapid transit line, Amalway, has also linked the port of Agadir to the Tikiouine district, with 35 stations. The network is new: check the route and timetables.

Then there is the arrival: Al Massira airport is about 25 km from the city, so allow half an hour by road. If you pick up the car at the airport, the transfer is sorted, and delivery there is free with us. If you are staying in town for the first few days, a taxi will do; the car can then come to your hotel.

What it does give you: the hinterland at your own pace

Most outings around Agadir fit into a single day, provided you set off at the time you choose. Distances, journey times and road surfaces checked on 10 October 2026: plan on the upper end of the range.

Paradise Valley : 25 to 35 km depending on where you start, via Aourir and then the Imouzzer road, so 45 minutes to 1 hour to the car park. The road is tarmacked up to there; after that, a signposted path leads to the natural pools in about half an hour's walk.

Taroudant : about 80 to 90 km to the east, allow 1 hour 15 to 1 hour 40. The town is surrounded by 7.5 km of ramparts, which earn it the nickname “little Marrakech”.

Imsouane : 95 to 100 km north along the coast road, 1 hour 45 to 2 hours. A bay known for the quality of its waves, and a harbour where you can eat grilled fish.

Tafraoute : about 160 km via Biougra and Aït Baha, allow 3 to 4 hours of mountain road. It is the main town of the Anti-Atlas, with its pink houses and the Ammeln valley, covered in almond trees in blossom in February. Ideally plan a night there, and check the state of the road before setting off.

All four destinations are reached by tarmac roads. If a road turns into a dirt track, stop where the tarmac ends : our rental conditions do not allow unpaved tracks, except for vehicles expressly suited to them. Mileage is unlimited.

Five profiles, five honest answers

Resort hotel on the bay: two or three days with a car are enough. Alternate: a few days at the beach without a car, then two or three days in a row for outings, Paradise Valley, Taroudant or the north coast. We deliver the car to your hotel and collect it from the same place, free of charge in Agadir.

Surfing up north: a car quickly becomes essential. Taghazout, Aourir and Tamraght, which the regional tourism website presents as the best surfing area, are about 25 minutes from Agadir along the coast road. With a car, you follow the swell from one spot to the next, as far as Imsouane, boards included: we offer optional roof bars, to be requested with your booking. If you are staying in Taghazout, pick up the car at the airport, where delivery is free; outside Agadir, it is on request.

Family: a car makes life easier from the moment you land. A petit taxi only takes three passengers: with four or five of you, you need two. With a car, you set off after the afternoon nap and head back when the children are tired. We have family vehicles, such as the Dacia Lodgy, the Dacia Dokker or the Renault Kangoo, with the rate given on request, and baby or child car seats at €10 for the whole rental: mention it in your request.

Winter stay of several months: hire long term, or in blocks. Our displayed rates stay the same whatever the month or season, and we confirm the price for your dates (see our article on hiring a car for a month in Agadir). As for your licence, Law 52-05 (Article 2) allows a foreign driver to drive on a valid licence for a maximum of one year from the start of their temporary stay in Morocco.

Road trip: take the car on arrival, and consider a one-way hire. If your trip ends somewhere other than Agadir, we collect the car in Marrakech, Essaouira or Taroudant for a surcharge of €60 per journey; for another city, it is on request. A pick-up and a drop-off outside Agadir count as two journeys. To share the driving, an additional driver costs €10.

Your stay Car useful? How many days Our advice
Resort hotel on the bay For outings only 2 to 3 days in a row Free delivery and collection at the hotel
Surfing up north Yes The whole stay Optional roof bars, on request
Family Yes The whole stay Baby or child seat: €10 for the whole rental
Winter stay of several months Yes, continuously or in blocks A few weeks to several months Firm price for your dates
Road trip Essential The whole trip Return in Marrakech, Essaouira or Taroudant: €60 per journey

Hire car or organised excursion?

The other option is an organised excursion: you book a group outing, transport included. It is comfortable if you would rather not drive in Morocco, or for a single outing. A car gives you freedom over your timings : setting off early for Paradise Valley, staying in Taroudant until sunset over the ramparts, stopping wherever you like.

To be clear: Carsalis does not sell excursions; we hire out cars that you drive yourself.

Hiring only on the days you need: how it works with us

Our rates are per day. Hire is calculated in 24-hour blocks: a car delivered at 9 am is returned the next day at 9 am for one day. If you are more than 2 hours late, an extra day is charged. If an outing runs long, let us know on WhatsApp.

Delivery and collection are free in Agadir, at the airport, at your hotel or in the city centre. The €10 cleaning fee is added only once per booking: group your days into a single request. Cancellation is free. The main driver must be at least 21 and have held a licence for 2 years. Full details are in our rental conditions. If you are flying home, plan to return the car 2 hours before take-off.
