The essentials in three lines

  • To combine the coast and the hinterland, October is the most complete month, followed by April and May: little rain, a mild coast and an interior that is still bearable.
  • February for the almond trees of Tafraout, the second half of October for the saffron of Taliouine. In July and August, Taroudant averages over 39°C in the afternoon.
  • All year round: take care with morning fog, especially from September to November, and be back before dark in winter.

You are torn between several dates and you will be hiring a car to get out of Agadir: Taroudant, Tafraout, the north coast. Your real question is the road: heat inside the car, rain, fog when you set off. We cross-checked the official climate normals, ten years of airport observations and the regional tourism website, Explore Agadir Souss Massa. Here is our answer, month by month.

Our answer: October, then April and May

The regional tourism website places the best time for the coast between July and mid-October, and recommends the Anti-Atlas from October to April, avoiding the summer. October is the only month that falls within both periods, at least for its first half; the second half brings the saffron. Agadir still averages 26°C in the afternoon, with about two days of rain over the month.

April and May come next. Along with June, they are the least foggy months, and rain is scarce. In Taroudant, afternoons are around 29°C in April and 32°C in May. Their drawbacks: more wind in the afternoon and, in April, big crowds.

November 24 28 3 4 Rain returns
December 22 24 4 3 Rain, early nightfall

Rounded averages: WMO-NOAA 1991-2020 normals for Agadir (days with at least 1 mm of rain), Open-Meteo 2016-2025 for Taroudant, airport 2016-2025 for fog (Carsalis compilation).

Heat: the trap lies in the hinterland

According to the 1991-2020 normals for the Agadir-Inezgane station (World Meteorological Organization and NOAA), the average maximum temperature on the coast does not exceed 27°C, even in August. Just 80 km away by road, Taroudant is another world: from 2016 to 2025, Open-Meteo gives an average of 39°C in the afternoon in July, close to 40°C in August, and three days out of four above 35°C. Tafraout, despite its altitude, averages over 36°C in July and August.

The coast has its hot spells too: around ten days a year at 35°C or more, from March to November, and October has roughly as many as July or August. Morocco's Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM) issues “heatwave” warning bulletins: check them before a long day out.

A car parked in the sun quickly turns into an oven: look for shade, air it out before setting off, keep water on board, and never leave a child alone inside. From June to September, drive inland early in the morning; for Taroudant, read Agadir – Taroudant by car.

Rain: from November to March, rare but serious

Agadir gets about 230 mm of rain a year, nearly four-fifths of it from November to March. December, the wettest month, has 49 mm, but only three to four days of rain. The risk comes from heavy downpours: on average one to two days of at least 10 mm a month in November and December.

Morocco's National Road Safety Agency (NARSA) points out that wet roads increase the risk of skidding: slow down, keep your distance, brake gradually. Before a trip into the mountains, also check the DGM warning bulletins. Never drive onto a flooded road, and no detours along a dirt track: our rental conditions do not allow unpaved tracks, except for vehicles expressly suited to them.

Fog and wind: mornings on the coast, afternoons in spring

In the Agadir airport observations from 2016 to 2025 (Iowa Environmental Mesonet archives), there are about 34 days of fog a year, mostly from September to November, and the fewest in June. Nearly nine times out of ten, it is observed between the end of the night and late morning; in the afternoon, almost never. If you set off in fog, NARSA advises slowing down, keeping your distance and avoiding full beam; for a simple day trip, wait for it to lift. For an early flight, we recommend returning the car 2 hours before take-off: build in the margin by leaving earlier, not by driving faster.

The wind does the opposite: the afternoon wind is strongest from April to June, and about 40% weaker in December than in April. Mornings stay calmer in every season. Keep a firm grip on the door in an exposed car park.

Almond blossom and saffron: the hinterland's highlights

In February, according to Explore Agadir Souss Massa, the valley and plateaus of Tafraout are carpeted with almond trees in bloom. The route: the N10, then the R105 via Biougra and Aït Baha, and the R104 to finish, or about 158 km and 3 hours without stopping according to OSRM. In OpenStreetMap, no section is marked as unsurfaced (checked on 10.10.2026): check its condition before you set off. Take a jacket: the website warns that it can get very cold there in winter.

In 2027, Ramadan is expected to begin around 8 February, according to forecast calendars, to be confirmed by the sighting of the crescent moon. NARSA notes that traffic gets heavier just before ftour, the meal that breaks the fast: plan your return ahead.

As for saffron, an FAO agronomy guide places flowering in the Taliouine area from mid-October, for about three weeks, peaking at the end of the month. It is 186 km via the N10, about 2 hours 40 minutes according to OSRM. The guide recommends picking between 5:00 and 8:00 in the morning: to see the harvest, stay the night. As returning more than 2 hours late without agreement is charged as a full day, let us know before extending. Mileage is unlimited. More ideas in Day trips from Agadir by car.

Crowds and daylight: book early, get back before dark

According to figures from Morocco's National Airports Office (ONDA) reported in the press, Al Massira airport handled more than 328,000 passengers in April 2026, compared with about 301,000 in July 2026. During the school holidays, send your booking request as soon as your tickets are booked. We usually reply within the minute, and delivery is free to the airport, your hotel or Agadir city centre.

According to Sunrise-Sunset, the day lasts about 14 hours 10 minutes at the summer solstice, but 10 hours 15 minutes at the winter solstice. In winter, a trip with 3 hours of driving each way is done in daylight: leave early, be back before dark. Our assistance team can be reached 24/7, but the mountains are best explored in daylight.
