The essentials in three lines

  • Send us your flight number: the handover at Al Massira airport follows the flight's actual arrival time, including after midnight, and delivery there is free.
  • No deposit, no card pre-authorisation: at 1 a.m., all that remains is the document check and the walk around the vehicle, then you're on your way.
  • The rental day lasts 24 hours from the handover; the airport is about 20 km from Agadir, or 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic.

Your plane lands in Agadir at 12:40 a.m. You've booked a car, but one question has been nagging you since boarding: will someone really be there at that hour? Al Massira airport is not in town, and nobody relishes hunting for a fallback at 1 a.m. with suitcases in tow. Here is how car hire in Agadir works for a night flight: what to prepare, and what changes on the ground.

The flight number: the one piece of information that really matters at night

For a night-time arrival, everything starts with the flight number. Our booking form asks for it along with the exact arrival time. As soon as we have your flight number, the arrival is tracked, and the handover adjusts to the flight's actual time, including late in the evening or in the early hours. No need to call back the day before to confirm: we can see if the plane is running late.

Along with the flight number, send us on WhatsApp at +212 648 291 116 or by e-mail at info@carsalis.com a copy of your passport, both sides of your driving licence, your return times and your preferred return location. The main driver must be at least 21 years old and have held a licence for two years. If you'd rather not drive alone after a day of travelling, a second driver is possible, for an additional charge. And keep your phone charged: if your airline moves you to another flight, a WhatsApp message with the new number is all it takes.

Where the handover takes place at Al Massira at 1 a.m.

The meeting point doesn't change with the time. Once you've collected your luggage, we meet you at the exit of the arrivals hall. No desk to look for, no shuttle to wait for: the car is already there, and airport delivery is free, like any delivery within Agadir (hotel, city centre, home address).

The handover takes a few minutes: document check, a walk around the vehicle together, and you're off. Since no deposit or card pre-authorisation is required, there is no payment terminal to get working and no amount to block at that hour.

One thing that deserves attention at night: the check-in inspection. Under car park lighting, a scratch is harder to spot than in broad daylight. Take your photos with the flash on, every angle of the bodywork and every wheel rim, then the lit-up dashboard for the fuel level and mileage.

Your flight is delayed: what happens on our side

A night flight taking off two hours late does happen. Since the arrival is tracked using the flight number, nobody is waiting for you at the wrong time and you have nothing to rearrange. One of our customers tells of landing at 3 a.m. after a six-hour delay, and still being picked up at the airport.

The trickier case is a change of flight: missed connection, cancellation, rebooking onto a flight the next day. In that situation, we are still tracking the flight you gave us. Send the new number as soon as you know it, even from the departure lounge, and we will confirm the new handover time. Since no card pre-authorisation has been taken, a flight change doesn't block any amount on your account.

The 24-hour day starts at the handover, not at sunrise

A rental day with Carsalis is 24 hours. If you collect the car at 12:45 a.m. on a Monday, your seventh day ends at 12:45 a.m. the following Monday. So an arrival after midnight doesn't cost you a day: the clock starts at the handover.

The same rule applies on return. Beyond two hours late without letting us know, a full day is charged. If your return flight leaves early in the morning, we recommend being at the airport two hours before take-off: give us that time when booking, and we set the return accordingly. Fuel is returned at the level recorded at the handover, and sand or rubbish in the vehicle incurs cleaning fees.

Driving at night between the airport and Agadir

Al Massira airport is located in the commune of Temsia, about 20 km south-east of Agadir. Access is via the N10 national road and the Agadir ring road, and you should allow 30 to 45 minutes to the city centre.

The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs writes that it is “not advisable to travel at night” in Morocco, and the British authorities point out that poor lighting makes pedestrians and animals hard to see. That doesn't mean you have to sleep at the airport. It means: a direct drive to the hotel, moderate speed, no impromptu excursion at 2 a.m. Unpaved tracks are in any case excluded by our rental conditions, unless the vehicle is specifically suited to them.

The limits are 100 km/h outside built-up areas and 120 km/h on motorways, unless a sign says otherwise, and speed checks are frequent. Signs are in Arabic and French. A fine remains payable by the hirer: there's nothing to gain on the airport road.

Paying on arrival when it's 1 a.m.

Payment is preferably made by bank transfer before arrival: the booking is confirmed on receipt, and you have no cash to handle in the middle of the night. Cash is still possible on arrival, provided you have agreed it with us at the time of confirmation, and so is bank card, with a 5% fee. No bank details are entered on our pages.

To sum up the whole arrival, from departure to return:

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an international driving permit to collect a car at night in Agadir?

No, the time of day changes nothing. A valid European driving licence is enough: Moroccan law 52-05, in its article 2, allows a foreign national on a temporary stay to drive with the licence issued in their own country, for a maximum of one year. Moroccan law doesn't require it, but the United Kingdom asks its nationals to also carry an international driving permit (1968 version). For us, what matters is: both sides of your licence sent before arrival, and a licence held for two years.

Can I return the car at 4 a.m. for an early-morning flight?

Yes, if the time is set when booking. Give us your return flight number and we schedule the return at the airport two hours before take-off. One customer tells on our About page of returning his car at 4 a.m. Plan for fuel at the level recorded at the handover and a quick sweep if you're coming back from the beach.

My flight is postponed to the next day: does the booking still stand?

Write to us on WhatsApp as soon as you know the new flight. We tell you frankly whether the car is available on the new date and we confirm the new handover time. Since no deposit or card pre-authorisation is taken, nothing is blocked on your account while you wait.
