The essentials in three lines
- To the north, the N1 runs past Anza, Taghazout, Imi Ouaddar, Aghroud and the mouth of the Tamri river, 10 minutes to 1 hour from Agadir. To the south, Tifnit, Aglou and Mirleft can also be reached on tarmac, in 50 minutes to 2 hr 30.
- From October to March, the water drops from about 21°C to 17 or 18°C and the swell builds outside the bay. Civil Protection's seasonal beach supervision ends in late September: in winter, never go in the water alone, and only where you can stand.
- The car stays on the tarmac: our rental conditions prohibit unpaved tracks, except for vehicles expressly suited to them. Mileage is unlimited.
You are spending a few days or the whole winter in Agadir, you know the big beach in the bay and you have a car. You want to see others without ending up stuck in the sand at the end of a dirt track. Here are the ones we recommend, from north to south, all reachable by a tarmac road, with somewhere to park. Distances and times calculated with OSRM, access checked on OpenStreetMap in early October 2026: access can change, so check it before you set off.
North on the N1: Anza, Taghazout, Imi Ouaddar and Aghroud
You drive the north coast on a single tarmac road, national road 1, the Essaouira road, often within sight of the ocean.
Anza, 8 km from the centre, about 10 minutes along the N1, is the first beach after the port. Dinosaur footprints around 85 million years old were described there in 2017; they are best seen at low tide.
Taghazout, about twenty kilometres away, 20 to 30 minutes, is the region's surf village: you park at the top of the village and walk down to the beach, as explained in Agadir – Taghazout by car.
Imi Ouaddar and Aghroud, two very long beaches according to the regional tourism website, follow one another 30 to 34 km away, or 30 to 45 minutes. The N1 runs alongside them, but several of the ways down are dirt tracks: park on the tarmac, off the carriageway, and finish on foot.
Tamri: the river mouth near the N1, an hour from Agadir
Some twenty kilometres further on, the N1 passes Cap Ghir and then runs near the mouth of the Tamri river, about 55 km from Agadir: allow an hour. You stop where the tarmac ends, off the carriageway, and walk to the sand. The regional tourism website describes a fine sandy beach at the river mouth, banana plantations, then dunes and cliffs to the north. The paths to these dunes are dirt tracks: on foot only.
To the south: Tifnit, in Souss-Massa National Park
Tifnit is about 43 km away, 50 minutes to 1 hour: the N1 towards Tiznit, then a tarmac provincial road to the beach car park, according to OpenStreetMap. The fishing village no longer exists: its 200 or so dwellings, built on the public maritime domain, were demolished at the end of 2023. According to Le Routard, what remains is a long wild beach, cliffs, dunes and a landing point for fishermen. Follow the park's signs and check access before you set off.
Further south: Aglou and Mirleft, on the same day
Aglou Plage is about 100 km away, 1 hr 35 to 2 hr: the N1 to the outskirts of Tiznit, then a tarmac road to the seafront, with a car park facing the beach. People come for its promenade, its vast beaches and its caves dug into the cliff by fishermen long ago.
Mirleft is about 34 km from Aglou along a tarmac coast road, or 35 minutes; from Agadir, allow 135 km and 2 hr 10 to 2 hr 30. Two beaches there can be reached without leaving the tarmac, each with a car park: Imin Turga, one of the best known, at the end of a short tarmac road off the R104, and Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah beach, known as Marabout beach, recognisable by its pierced rock, beside the R104. Other coves can only be reached by dirt tracks: not by car. The route via Tiznit is described in Agadir – Legzira by car.

Swimming from October to March: cool water, swell and no more lifeguards
According to Open-Meteo's marine model, the water off the bay averages around 21°C in October, 20°C in November, 18°C in December and 17 to 18°C from January to March; the other beaches are within a degree of that.
Agadir bay is the most sheltered on the list, with calmer waters according to the Moroccan National Tourist Office: in January, off the bay and Anza, waves exceed 2 m 21% of the time, compared with nearly half the time off Aghroud, Aglou or Mirleft.
According to the MAP news agency, Civil Protection's lifeguard season ran from 1 May to 30 September in 2025; between 1 May and 15 July, 33 of the 49 drowning deaths in Morocco happened in unsupervised areas. For 2026, Hespress announced the same period, until the end of September. In winter, there is often no lifeguard and no flag: the absence of a flag does not mean the sea is safe.
Civil Protection advises swimming in supervised areas and avoiding unsupervised beaches. If you go in the water anyway: never alone, children watched at all times, and only where you can stand. If you are caught in a current pulling you out to sea, do not fight it: NOAA, the US ocean agency, advises swimming parallel to the shore, then heading back in at an angle. If you witness a drowning in an unsupervised area, call 15.
On site: parking, sand and our conditions
Everywhere, the car stays on the tarmac : our rental conditions prohibit unpaved tracks, except for vehicles expressly suited to them, and the soft sand of a beach access quickly traps a car.
Mileage is unlimited: linking up Taghazout, Imi Ouaddar and Tamri makes no difference to the rental price, and 24/7 assistance is included. Shake out towels and sandals before getting back in: the €10 cleaning fee is charged only once per booking, but sand builds up quickly. As for fuel, the car is returned at the same level as at delivery. For Mirleft, set off early and drive back in daylight, or stay the night there. For surfing, see roof bars and surfboards.
